Baby Einstein Refund

This is disturbing.  We love our baby more than anything.  We want nothing more than to inspire an intelligent, well-rounded child… but the path to success isn’t clear.  Baby Einstein, Baby Brainy, Eebee’s Adventures… which to choose?  While these DVDs may or may not stimulate your baby, one can’t believe that plopping your kid in front of the TV will inspire a genius.

But one must survive… Our infant is the pride of our lives… and inspires 100% of my wife’s daily attention.  She doesn’t even take time to feed herself.  My idea is to have a half-hour or so of TV time for our Lily to provide some time for adult sanity… Time to allow for 2-handed tasks that cannot be done while holding a baby.  Do that while she’s sleeping, you say?  No way.  We’ve learned the hard way that when an newborn sleeps, you sleep.

My point is this: it is understandable that educational TV shows is less effective than human interaction for development.  But this article marks regression in vocab by 6-8 words due to exposure to these videos.  REGRESSION.  Are they saying it is more stimulating for a child to stare at a wall for 30 minutes than to watch these videos?  If that is the case, then parents have no true safe venue for relief.  At what point do you levy the development of your baby for your own sanity?

BTW, Happy 3 weeks Lily!!  You’re getting so big already!

“Air Traffic Control” by Louis XIV

"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts."

Bertrand Russell

DEMOCRATIC YANKEES

Overheard on the radio and checked it for myself…

In the modern era of Major League Baseball (’60s forward), the New York Yankees have only won Championships under Democratic Presidencies.  Their 9 World Series titles in this era:

2009 - Obama (D)
2000 - Clinton (D)
1999 - Clinton (D)
1998 - Clinton (D)
1996 - Clinton (D)
1978 - Carter (D)
1977 - Carter (D)
1962 - Kennedy (D)
1961 - Kennedy (D)

This is the same interval when Republicans controlled the White House the majority of time (28 of 49 years).  Interesting…

Conspiracy theorists, run with this and draw your own conclusions.

“A Dustland Fairytale” by The Killers

This song is about Brandon Flowers’ family.  He has great admiration and sympathy for his mother, who is battling cancer.  There are references to his parents early relationship, as they met when they were 15 years old and living in the same trailer park.  His father abused drugs and alcohol when Brandon was young, but eventually resolved his issues, found peace in the church, and became a good Dad.  As the youngest child of 6, this experience must have made a major impression on Brandon — who to this day has never used a drug in his life, “Not even a drag of a joint.”  His moral fiber is commendable, especially considering the influences of his hometown of Las Vegas.

Its amazing how someone can turn painful experiences into beautiful, poetic music.  It forces you look deeper into each song for its hidden meaning.  I’m hooked on the Killers… and I am so thankful that my beautiful wife surprised me with tickets to see them in concert this summer.  It was a great experience.

A Dustland Fairytale beginning
Just another white trash county kiss
In ‘61, long brown hair, foolish eyes

He looks just like you’d want him to
Some kind of slick chrome American Prince
A bluejean serenade, and moon river, what you do to me
I don’t believe you

Saw Cinderella in a party dress
But she was looking for a nightgown
I saw the devil wrapping up his hands
He’s getting ready for the showdown
I saw the minute that I turned away
I got my money on a palm tonight

Change came in disguise of revelation, set his soul on fire
She says she always knew he’d come around
And the decades disappear like sinking ships
But we persevere, God gives us hope
But we still fear what we don’t know

The mind is poison
Castles in the sky sit stranded, vandalized
Drawbridges closing

Saw Cinderella in a party dress
But she was looking for a nightgown
I saw the devil wrapping up his hands
He’s getting ready for the showdown
I saw the ending where they turned the page
I took my money and I ran away
Straight to the valley of the great divide

Out where the dreams are high
Out here, the wind don’t blow
Out here, the good girls die
And the sky won’t snow
Out here, the birds don’t sing
Out here, the fields don’t grow
Out here, the bell don’t ring
Out here, the bell don’t ring

Out here, the good girls die

Now Cinderella, don’t you go to sleep
It’s such a bitter form of refuge
Oh don’t you know, the kingdom’s under siege
And everybody needs you
Is there still magic in the midnight sun
Or did you leave it back in 61?
In the cadence of a young man’s eyes
I wouldn’t dream so high

From ESPN Page 2… What if NFL logos reflected the performance of the teams?
Pretty hilarious, sounds like something I would come up with.

Party Time, Excellent

What am I going to do with a gunrack?  I don’t even own AH gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack.

I was put on the spot for a Wayne’s World quote last night and blanked (besides the standard, as titled).  I’m so disappointed in myself…
